The Factory Agency (“TFA”), a Minneapolis based specialized sports and entertainment marketing agency, is excited to announce the signing of U.S. Paralympic Snowboarder, Mike Shea (Castaic, CA) a silver medalist at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Games. Shea captured gold and the world title in the LL2 banked slalom at the 2015 IPC Snowboard World Championships in La Molina, Spain. Combined with three wins on the IPC world cup circuit, he cruised to a No. 1 world ranking in 2015 in both banked slalom and snowboard cross and was a finalist for Team USA’s Male Paralympic Athlete of the Year.
Shea grew up passionate about snowboarding and couldn’t get enough of it. But in September of 2002, he was involved in a boating accident. While wakeboarding with friends, the ski rope wrapped around his ankle and resulted in the instant amputation of his left leg. After Shea’s accident, he became an avid woodworker making custom furniture in the garage of his California home, but in 2010 he packed his woodworking shop and sold his tools in order to fund his move to Winter Park, Colo. Since his move, Shea has become one of the top adaptive snowboarders in the world and won the first ever overall title for the International Paralympic Committee Alpine Skiing Para-Snowboard World Cup circuit in 2014. Shea also helps others to realize their own Paralympic dreams as a developmental coach at the National Sports Center for the Disabled.
In looking ahead to the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Paralympic Games, Shea states, “I am extremely excited to be working with TFA moving forward. Shea will be competing this weekend (January 28th – 31st) at the 2016 Winter X-Games in Aspen, CO and looking to medal in the highly competitive Snowboarder X Adaptive division, which begins on Friday, January 29th at 12:00pmMST/2:00pmEST with qualifying rounds and continues with finals on Sunday, January 31st at 10:00amMST/12:00pmEST with live coverage airing ABC and ESPN.
